Out on the water for the first time in a month this afternoon. Pretended I had a motor boat and motored up Sitka Sound to Whale Park and back. Not much wind, cold, maybe 40f, maybe less, but the sun was out and felt really nice. Finally got the spray hood installed this morning. Looks nice and keeps the wind down and will protect the hatch and companionway. Hopefully keep the instruments dry too. anyway didn't even think about getting the sails up, maybe tomorrow if the weather holds. I enjoy sailing alone, but getting Polly Pureheart into her slip can be a challenging task by myself. The fairway is narrow and the slip is none too big. Fortunately my neighbors boat isn't as big as Polly so we have about 6 feet between us, and the wind was calm. Nice that I can sail year round here. All the folks on the Bristol email lists are or have put their boats up for the winter and can only dream about getting out.

On another subject, I was heartened by the news that the neocons took a hit in the elections this week. Also that the School Board members in PA who were pushing ID to be taught as a science were all replaced by the voters. At last a glimmer of sanity. I was beginning to think that we were on the cusp of a new modern dark ages, or a change from a free society to a theocracy. It isn't over yet by a long shot, but there is hope for the first time in almost 6 years of insanity. Looks to me like inability is coming home to roost, and people are at last becoming fed up with cronyism, and fascism. Now if we would only hold government leaders responsible for lawbreaking, lying and conniving maybe we could get somewhere. Congratulations to Senator McCain for his amendment barring torture. Its about time, I'm ashamed to be a part of a country that treats noncitizen persons like that. But how could we expect otherwise? The same people are treating US citizens poorly also. If you don't think so just visit Canada and try to come home.........

Who cares what's in his pockets? Its what's in his head that is important. Could be they are about the same, I suppose.
